Tackling Infectious Disease Threats: Prevent, detect, respond with a One Health approach 10 – 11 October 2017, Uppsala

International Foundation For Science (IFS) participated in an event encompassing solutions-oriented workshops and plenum sessions organized by Uppsala Health Summit.
IFS participated in a dialogue on how to meet the threats of infectious diseases by applying an integrated One Health approach to global and local management. The event encompassing solutions-oriented workshops and plenum sessions was organised by Uppsala Health Summit. Uppsala Health Summit is an international forum for sharing insights into healthcare solutions. Annually, international workshops are organised providing a policy arena for dialogue on challenges for health and healthcare and how to overcome them, by bringing together together representatives from universities, research institutions and the private and public sector.
Issues addressed in this year’s summit included frameworks for coordinated laboratory structures,modelling and prediction of emergence of zoonoses using big data, social dimensions of preventing transmission of infectious diseases from animals to humans in low-income countries, affordability of new diagnostic tools, medicine and vaccine safety, research agendas and behavioural change. Under these broad themes, areas where policies and practices could be improved were identified and discussed. IFS participated by providing travel grants to two grantees, one from Burkina Faso and one from Kenya, as well as active involvement in the conference by IFS staff and advisers.
