International Foundation For Science (IFS) is in Asia visiting strategic partners.

The IFS Director is visiting strategic partners in Asia to discuss possible collaboration as part of the new IFS strategy development process. Dr. Nighisty Ghezae visited the campus of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on February 14-15 where these fruitful meetings took place:

Dr. Eden Living, AIT President

IFS was introduced to the AIT President, after which there were exchanges on how IFS could collaborate with AIT as a regional platform for the enhancement of regional research capacity, especially with the AIT alumni network. Dr. Won expressed his strong support for IFS 'work to support early-career scientists in low- and lower-middle-income countries by awarding individual and collaborative grants. He expressed his willingness to work together on both approaches, to identify research topics relevant to the region, and to approach potential funding agencies to develop joint proposals.

Faculty members of Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM) or AIT

Discussions with EEM faculty members Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, Dr. Oleg Shipin, Dr. Ekbordin Winijkul, Dr. Wenchao Xue and Mr. Tomohisa Kume highlighted how IFS grants could complement PhD and post-doctoral research at EEM and in its strong alumni network in the region. Apart from the EEM program, it is possible to develop multidisciplinary collaborative research with other AIT programs such as gender and development studies, agriculture and aquaculture systems, and natural resource management.

Delegation from Chinese Academy of Science (CAS)

Nighisty extensively discussed with CAS delegates led by Prof. Yuansong Wei; some are from water-related industries in Beijing and Shenzhen.
