IFS & THE 1000 STEM WOMEN PROJECT

Published: 2023-08-31

IFS 1000 STEM Women Workshop took place during 17-18 August. For the third year in a row IFS collaborated with Dr Ramesh Laungani, founder of the 1000 STEM Women Project, to run an online workshop.

17 IFS grantees from 11 countries participated in this interactive workshop and got to practise on how to communicate their research to a non-scientific audience, with a focus on school children. Participants recorded videos of themselves communicating their science on Flip, a video discussion platform app.

Facilitators and participants from all over the globe

The 1000 STEM Women Project is an online video library, freely available for any schools around the world, where women scientists can upload a 90-seconds-long video, describing their research. The project aims to provide an easily accessible resource for students worldwide to get inspired by amazing women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Women in STEM are encouraged to record a video on the 1000 STEM Women Platform, where they describe what they are working with in an inspiring and easily understandable way.

IFS is very happy for this yearly collaboration with Dr Ramesh Laungani. Skills developed in the IFS 1000 STEM Women Workshop can be applied widely, not only when communicating with schoolchildren, but also with communities and other audiences outside of the science field. You can follow #1000STEMWomen in the social media platforms for more updates on the project, and also see our social media pots on the workshop here: TwitterLinkedInFacebook & Instagram.
