We Welcome Jennifer Sjölund, Our Newest Colleague

It is with great delight that we welcome Jennifer Sjölund to IFS, marking what we hope will be the beginning of mutually beneficial relationships among us all. We selected Jennifer from a field of candidates because of her outstanding attributes, and we are confident that she will deliver.

She is a Swedish national and is half Filipino with a multicultural background, having lived in several countries including Germany, Luxembourg, Singapore and the United Kingdom. Jennifer has eight years of experience as a researcher in agriculture, ecology and genetics, in both academia and government. She came to us from Scotland where she was a post-doc and project leader at Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture (SASA), working on collaborative transnational projects in biosecurity and plant health policy. She specialized in the detection of emerging plant pests, delivered an international training workshop on pest identification, and led the EUPHRESCO (European Phytosanitary Research Coordination) project, PhyLibII, on significant potato pathogens. At SASA, was the chair of the Equality and Diversity Committee promoting inclusion in science and the workplace by Identifying and Implementing evidence-based actions thataddress barriers Affecting women and minority groups. Prior to her post in government, Jennifer worked as a research associate in molecular biology at the University of Edinburgh after completing a PhD in ecology at the University of Stirling, focusing on the human and natural impacts on the genetic diversity of European beech forests. Her, PhD research considered traditional agroforestry practices and their consequences for the management of genetic resources and forest persistence under climate change. Once again, we welcome Jennifer to IFS and we look forward to a good working relationship.
