Defining the road ahead: developing the new 2021-2030 IFS Strategy in Prague

Published: 2019-09-02

Participants including IFS Trustees, former and current grantees, experts in research funding, scientific advisory committee (SAC) members, and the IFS secretariat came from all over the globe to the Czech University of Life Science in Prague, Czech Republic, to discuss the development of the next 10-year strategy for 2021-2030.

This meeting represented the final stages of many months of consultations regarding the development of the new strategy. Several changes to the IFS program were carefully considered and by capturing the ideas of our diverse group of stakeholders, many of which are based in the geographical regions where IFS support is provided, we hoped to ensure that the changes made in the new strategy would help us better reach, strengthen, and empower promising early-career scientists in low and lower middle-income countries to carry out relevant research and put it to use in their home environments. Specific issues discussed at the meeting include changes to eligibility criteria, changes to the level and model of grant support, ways to provide mentorship for grantees, and how we can activate IFS alumni and alumni associations.
