With Gratitude for the Life of Professor Gunnar Jacks

In this feature of the blog IFS Honors the Life of Professor Gunnar Jacks, a long-time friend of IFS.

Prof. Gunnar Jacks

We have some sad news to share with the IFS family. Prof Gunnar Jacks passed away on 18 September 2019, and his funeral will take place on 17 October. Most of us got to know Gunnar from 2002 when he first joined IFS as a SAC member for the water sector, for which he evaluated hundreds of research applications. He was a treasured IFS friend and a highly respected professional in his field. His passion for supporting young researchers is an enduring legacy for which we are extremely grateful. All of us at IFS are blessed to have had the opportunity to work closely with him over the years. He was a warm, wonderful person and we were humbled by his kindness and compassion. Gunnar will be thoroughly missed, yet we find some comfort in thinking about all those he inspired to work on water-related issues, knowing that his work will continue to make the world a better place.
