IFS Annual Report 2017 Is On the Way!

In this feature of the blog IFS joins hands with the Nairobi-based African Academy of Sciences (AAS), in condemning [US President Donald] Trump’s display of overt racism towards Africans, Haitians and El Salvadorians.

Since 1974, IFS has awarded research grants to over 8,000 early-career scientists in around 105 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America. Up to 30% of IFS’s grantees have been young women. IFS’s alumni - our former grant recipients -- have emerged as science leaders, becoming ministers of science, technology and innovation; chief executives; board chairs and directors of scientific and research organisations; professors; and winners of a host of prizes and awards at national, regional and international levels. IFS-funded research has generated and disseminated new scientific knowledge that has been adopted and adapted by other scientists, policymakers and communities, and has been put into use in countries on every continent.
Commencing in February, throughout 2018 we will devote this year's blog posts to showcasing scientific achievement in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America, with invited contributions from colleagues who are examples of scientific excellence and leadership. We invite you to read these posts, as IFS continues as part of the growing global community that recognises that all countries and their citizens are of equal value. As AAS’s statement so clearly expresses, we will all continue to work with the “research institutions, universities, and the warm and wonderful people of the United States of America in the shared purpose of addressing global problems for the common good of humanity.”
Along with AAS, IFS emphatically also "aligns itself with the strong sentiments expressed by African Union, the African Group of Ambassadors to the United Nations in New York, as well as the Secretary-General of the United Nations".
